Do you know how to fill your stomach?

By VJ on October 28, 2016

Yup, you need to eat. In fact, eating is one of the best therapies during stressful days in the field. But, do you know how to cook?

If you have not cooked in your life, the time has come.  Some organizations provide Expats with cooks and cleaners and some do not. So if you do not have this luxury, then prepare yourself to be able to cook a few simple things at least or hopefully someone in your group knows a few things here and there.  You soon will realize that cooking is such a wonderful therapy especially if you can get your hands on local spices and various foods. I remember I used to cook potatoes and eggplants with tomatoes almost everyday in a very rural setting in Sudan where markets had limited choice of veggies and foods. In some contexts, availability of food and spices is limited especially if you are in very rural setting.

Here is what I suggest that you take with you:

  • Spice tray
  • Granola
  • Prepared foods (for those working in very secluded areas)

In places like, South East Asia, forget it.. You are in heaven and do not need any of this.
